Patient information

Preparing for your visit

A little preparation makes the consultation far more useful. Here is what to bring and what to expect.

Bring your old reports Previous X-rays, CT scans, spirometry and discharge summaries change the diagnosis more often than anything else. Bring them even if they are years old.

Your first consultation

  • Bring every previous prescription, discharge summary and report you have, even old ones.
  • Bring your inhalers and spacers in their box, so technique can be checked.
  • Write down when the symptoms started and what makes them worse.
  • Bring a list of all current medicines, including those for other conditions.

Before a lung function test (PFT)

  • Avoid a heavy meal in the two hours beforehand.
  • Do not smoke on the day of the test.
  • Wear loose clothing that does not restrict the chest.
  • Ask the clinic which inhalers to withhold and for how long - it varies by test.

Before allergy testing

  • Antihistamines must usually be stopped several days beforehand; confirm with us first.
  • Do not apply moisturiser or oil to the forearms on the day.
  • Tell us if you have had a severe allergic reaction before.

Before a sleep study

  • Avoid caffeine and daytime naps on the day of the study.
  • Wash and dry your hair; do not use oil, gel or serum.
  • Bring comfortable night clothes and your regular medicines.

Before bronchoscopy or a pleural procedure

  • You will be told how many hours to fast - follow it exactly.
  • Tell us about blood thinners well in advance; they may need to be paused.
  • Bring someone with you; you should not drive yourself home.
  • Bring recent scans on CD or film if they were done elsewhere.

Questions we are asked most

Do I need an appointment?

Walk-ins are seen, but booking a slot means a shorter wait. You can book online in under a minute and you will get a token number straight away.

Which branch should I go to?

Tirupati consults 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Chittoor 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday to Saturday. Both are run by the same team, so choose whichever fits your day.

How long will the first visit take?

Allow about an hour. A first consultation usually includes an examination and often a lung function test, which takes time to do properly.

Can I change or cancel my appointment?

Yes. Please call the branch you booked and reception will change it. Letting us know early frees the slot for someone else.

Do you treat children?

The clinic is set up for adult respiratory care. For a child, please call first and we will advise whether we are the right place.
